Photo Shoot

Yvonne Johnson who works at my school, is an up and coming photographer. It is her passion. She loves it and maybe wants to do it full time. I think she is great. She has an eye that I just don't have for that sort of stuff.
So after she took the six flags pictures, I hired her to to Lilly's milestone pictures...6 months, 9 months, one year.
Today was the photo shoot for the first set of pictures. Thank goodness we didn't have big plans for these pictures. Thank goodness it wasn't Christmas and we weren't counting on these for a Christmas card.

Did I mention the shots she got yesterday? And the new tooth coming in? And the fact that it was freezing here today? Yeah, well. Add those up and that equals crank baby extraordinaire. She was quite the diva today as we tried everything to get her to stop crying and smile for the camera. No such luck. Poor Yvonne tried her best and was so ready and willing, but Lilly just wasn't having anything to do with the photography. So we have another session scheduled for next week. Maybe that one will be better and she will be in a better mood. Let's hope so!

If nothing else, we have pictures of her grouchy. They have a purpose all their own.

:)

Six month check up

The Lils had her 6 month check up on Friday. She is officially a big girl! She weighed in at 17 pounds and was 25 inches long.
She officially has a tooth! It is hard to see because she doesn't like to show it off very often, but it is there. And if you put your finger in her mouth, you can certainly feel it.

The doctor said that she was looking good. Ear infection is gone, the snot is a normal thing as cold as it is around here these days. She also said that Lilly was advanced in some things. That she will continue to advance and it will be fast. We had better hold on! And make notes of all the milestones while they happen, so we won't forget.

I think separation anxiety is kicking in. The doctor says it is about the time for it. But the doctor says it is also a sign of intelligence. So as much as it may stink for me, it is great for her. :)

Have I mentioned how much I would hate being a nurse in a pediatrician's office? They get to be the ones to give kids the shots. I felt sorry for the lady who gave Lils her shots. She got kicked and screamed at and abused by Lils cause she was too strong to be held down. Poor lady. She seemed none too thrilled in having to give the shot. And needless to say, Lils was none too thrilled to get it.
But she is sleeping now and hopefully, having good dreams about things like kitty cats and milk, and will be able to forget for a while about that mean nurse and the terrible shots!

Learning to crawl?

Billy said recently that he doesn't know why we are working on teaching her to crawl. It is like teaching a dog to bite you.
Yep. She isn't crawling yet, but she is getting very close.

Here are videos. One from before Christmas, and the second one from last Friday night.

Lunch in a gas station

So not long ago, our friends the Hodges came down our direction to eat at the gas station with us.
And I think it was some of the best food we have ever had!

Yeah. Harry is a fan of Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives on the Food Network and he had heard about this place called Chef Point Cafe. It seems that the owner, a chef, wanted to start his own restaurant but didn't have enough money to start one new, so he put in a restaurant in a gas station. Literally, while you eat, people are walking around grabbing beer out of the coolers on the wall and paying at the register for their gas and beer.
Yep. And did I mention, the food is amazing?

Plus, the company wasn't half bad either.
We had a nice time sampling the food and talking and laughing. It was really great to see them again. It was too bad a Cowboys game was going on and we were expecting bad traffic, or we would have invited them to come over to the house and hang out on the porch. Oh well, maybe next time!

At the end of the lunch, we had a chance to snap some pictures of Lils with Harry and Mary. :)
So awesome!

So, if you get a chance, check out Chef Point Cafe. We might just see you there!

Pictures of the Lils

Just a few pictures of the Lils that I have snapped recently on my phone.

Almost 6 months!

Have you been missing me??? Sorry my mom is such a slacker and doesn't update. I will talk to her about that!
Ok, Done. Happy now?

I can't believe that our little Lils will be 6 months old at the end of the month! In one way, it seems like forever since we have had her. In another way, it seems like only yesterday. Boy has our life changed in a short 5 1/2 months! We are just so blessed!

We went to a shower Saturday for a young girl who pretty much has nothing for her little baby boy. I was so sad about that. Lils had and has so much. We were so blessed to have so many generous people supply us with stuff early on. Knowing what it is like after you get home from the hospital, I made sure to get her the necessities. It is amazing the stuff that you need when you have a baby!

We also found out that our friend Allison is having a girl. :) So Lil's old clothes are going to Allison's baby. It was bittersweet getting them packed up to give to Allison. In one way, it was nice to get them out of the closet and so nice to know that they will be appreciated and used. In another way, it made me a little sad. I can remember when she was soooo little
and could fit into those teeny tiny little onsies. Now one wouldn't fit over her big leg. :)

But there is no stopping her growth now! She is a big girl!
She is eating cereal now, although she would rather not. (not so fond of oatmeal, just like her mommy) She likes apples, peas, and carrots in baby food form but the jury is still out on sweet potatoes. We think she liked them just fine, but not sure that they were happy once inside her tummy. I just know that feeding her baby food is VERY different from bottle feeding. This often requires post feeding bath excursions, as she often has peas all over herself and me. How does a baby get peas in her ears? OY! But she loves being a big girl, sitting in her big chair, and eating big food. She is still eyeballing Daddy's Snickers bars, but those will have to wait till WAY later!

Oh Come on! I have been good! I ate all my peas! Just one bit of Snickers bar? Please???

So that is the news from around Lilly's house. Nana has made some great sleep sacks for her, so we are really enjoying those. Thanks Nana for the cool stuff. I am still working on thank you notes from Christmas. Yeah, it isn't just the blog that I am slacking on. You should see my pile of laundry!
Hope you all are well and enjoying 2010! We sure are!

Lils and the Doctor.

We have had some exciting times around our house recently. Lils has been having a runny nose for a while and we are pretty used to that with this crazy weather, but the other day, I picked her up from daycare and her eyes were pretty much swollen shut. They looked terrible. Poor little thing was miserable, but still was such a trooper. She didn't have a fever that night but we decided to be safe and get her to the doctor anyway. "Just a cold" the doctor said. (I think she has allergies) So we didn't worry too much about it. Not even a week later, we were back to see the doctor again. This time she did have a fever. Not a high high fever, but enough to make us pretty worried. As our friend Genie says, "it isn't the fever that you worry about, it is what is causing the fever". So, we took her in again. This time, we discovered the beginnings of an ear infection. Not big, and certainly manageable. Thank goodness. Sick babies are no fun to first time parents. We worry and feel worse than the baby does, I think. The antibiotics are bubble gum flavored. Sounds great to a kid, no so much for a baby who has no schema for bubble gum. Just tastes strange to her. Trying to use the syringe that came with the meds led to big huge pink bubble gum flavored mess! Ginger had given us this thing that looks like a pacifier that dispenses the medicine. It is the greatest thing on the planet, I tell you! I will include one of those in every shower gift I give from now on!

But we are on the mend now, and it looks like the weather is getting warmer, so maybe the runny nose will clear up soon. Who knows. Thanks for checking in. I will try not to be such a slacker next time. ;)
