Bedtime...

Dear Lillian Elizabeth,

I don't remember negotiating a later bedtime for you. Really, I don't. Moving the bedtime from 8 to 10:30 is not really an option for mom and dad since we are old and our bedtime is 8:05. Your staying up keeps us from going to bed at the correct time and therefore causes us to be quite grumpy. I would be happy to discuss this change of time with you if you could talk to me.
Until then, let's all go to sleep at a decent hour kay?
thanks.
Love, mommy.

BE MY VALENTINE?

Fever, in the morning... fever all through the night

WE have been dealing with fever. Lots and lots of fever. Last monday, I picked up LIl from daycare and something seemed wrong. I guess a mommy knows when something isn't right. She just didn't seem herself. So I grabbed the handy dandy rectal thermometer and got to work. Lils had a fever. (it is considered a fever by the doctor if it is 101.4 or above). It was right at that, so I gave her some tylenol and put her to sleep. At 1 that morning, she was burning up! 104! We were freaked. We called the doctor's office and talked to the dr on call who said that we needed to get her some tylenol and put her back to bed.
We did that.
We have been spending the last few days giving her tylenol and letting her sleep.

We did go to the doctor on Tuesday. She looked at her ears, listened to her chest and said nothing was wrong with her in those areas. It must be a virus. A virus is something for which you get no medicine. You just have to wait it out. 72 hours, she said. Mom and Dad said CRAP.
So, we waited and waited, arranging our schedules in order to take off work to be with her. 72 hours came and went and still no sign of letting up on the fever.

We took her back to the doctor. This time our regular doctor was too afraid to drive because of the snow, so we saw a different doctor in the office. Very smart man, but made me miss the kindness of my regular pediatrician.
He had NO bedside manner.
Not for mom anyway.

So he thought maybe it was a bladder infection but again, said he thought it was just a virus that hadn't run its course yet.
they took a urine sample (painful) and sent us on our way with antibiotics just in case it was a bladder infection.

Her fever broke before we gave her the antibiotic, so we don't know what it was.

It has been a rough time. We weren't sure if the baptism would happen or not with her still feeling puny. But Friday afternoon it all went away...the feeling icky, the fever, everything.
It is so nice to have our normal playful smiling girl back.
It is terrible for babies to be sick. They can't tell you what hurts! They can't tell you what is wrong. They just have to work it out of their system. She was a trooper. So brave. What else would you expect from her?

Her mom and dad though, were not as brave. We were not such troopers. If we could have thrown a temper tantrum about things a few times, we would have. We were not happy that our baby girl was feeling sick.

Maybe next time we will follow her lead, her example and learn to take things in stride? Hopefully the next time she gets sick will be a LONG way away. By then maybe we can reflect on what we should have done differently. Till then, we will snuggle with our now well baby and be thankful. It is the best way to be!

Photo Shoot Part 2

We decided to try this photo shoot thing this past Saturday. I made sure to feed her right before, make sure she had had a nice long nap, and dress her in nice warm clothes. I wanted NO cranky baby pictures. I wanted pictures of the happy baby we know and love. Happy Happy Lils.
And I think we got them this time. She smiled, she laughed, and she looked around and inspected everything in the room this time. I think we got some great shots of her at her best.
It certainly did represent her at 6 months, which is what we were going for.

Hope you agree...

Here are some. The best are yet to come.

I love how she is sitting up so straight and tall in that picture. Like she is so prim and proper. :)
